our history
Plaxtol Nursery School started in 1975 at Nutwood House in The Street, which was a former pub. During the 1970s and 1980s, it was run by various local Mums including Adrienne Brewin who lived at Nutwood House. In September 1988, Valerie Pope bought the nursery and moved it to the The Memorial Hall in September 1990 before moving on in April 1991. Carol Crossley then took over the nursery transforming it from a small play group to a thriving Early Years setting.

Plaxtol Nursery School achieved Accreditation with the Pre-School Learning Alliance embedding high standards of both care and education. When Ofsted Inspections were introduced the nursery was always awarded the highest grade.
Sally Shewell joined the nursery as a permanent member of the staff from January 1996. In 2000 Sally became joint owner until to Carol left in December 2001. Over the next 16 years the nursery continued to flourish and extended opening hours. The Nursery was awarded the Kent Quality Mark and received three consecutive Outstanding ratings from Ofsted.
Dayo Olufote took over as owner of the nursery in October 2018. Dayo is a qualified teacher with many years experience as a school teacher and also owner of another nursery. Since 2018, the nursery has extended to opening all day 9.00-15.00, increased the number of staff and introduced the Forest school.
