our forest school in plaxtol, sevenoaks

Forest schools originated in Scandinavia in the 1950s. It is an inspirational process that encourages learners to develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on, outdoor learning experiences in woodland, forest or natural environment. Research in the Early Year’s sector shows the positive impact that these types of schools have on young children’s development.

At Plaxtol Nursery school, we love outdoor activities and are lucky to be surrounded by a beautiful natural rural scenery;  allowing our children great space to enjoy the best that nature has to offer. Our Forest School activities are led by a Level 3 Qualified Forest school Leader with many years experience working with children.

The children enjoy exploring the natural environment; some of the important skills our children are developing from forest school activities include self-confidence, problem-solving, supervised risk-taking, general wellbeing, leadership, social and interpersonal skills. We believe your child will love it here at our Forest school in Plaxtol, Sevenoaks.

What our parents say about us:

Plaxtol Nursery has always been a fantastic environment in which our son continues to thrive and develop. He enjoys his time at nursery, is very receptive to the teachers around him, and is presented with a variety of activities that stimulate his learning. As an example, today he told me he had been to the forest to find treasure and had been learning about trees..."

"Our offer was accepted on our new home in Ightham in the summer and at this point, I needed to find a school for my twin daughters. I approached Plaxtol and was made to feel welcome from the very first moment, I registered my children immediately. My girls started school in September and ran into class on the first day and were greeted with open arms..."

I have a little boy (nearly 4yrs) at Plaxtol Nursery. He loves going, and as a parent I particularly value:

1. How he has made a strong network of local friends, encouraged gently by the staff
2. The inclusive nature of the nursery - e.g. my son has been learning Makaton at nursery (he shows us at home), and can use it to play/interact with..."
